Appeals

We brief and argue appeals in Virginia’s appellate courts.

We’ve argued before the Supreme Court of Virginia and the Court of Appeals. Our appellate practice is an extension of our trial work — we appeal cases we’ve litigated, and we argue appeals for other firms’ clients as well.

Interlocutory Appeals

Not every case requires a final judgment before appeal. When a trial court ruling threatens the viability of your case or raises a legal question that should be resolved before trial, an interlocutory appeal may be viable.

Appeals of Right

Losing at trial doesn’t end the case. We brief and argue appeals as a matter of right in the Court of Appeals of Virginia. We know the record, the applicable standards of review, and the law.

Discretionary Review

When a case presents a legal issue of significance or a split in authority, a petition to the Supreme Court of Virginia may be worth filing. We evaluate the chances and advise on strategy.
